The Grip of El Gripe

So, it was bound to happen i suppose. i got sick. but, it wasn´t the horrible stomach issues ive heard so much about (although, that probably is still in my future). it was "el gripe", the flu. it hit me like a bus, knocked me out for a good day, with pretty bad body aches, a headache, and no appetite at all plus a bit of nausea.

i was pretty bummed to miss class since i´ve really been making progress this week but there are alot of activities coming up this weekend so i figured it would be best to just rest as much as i could.

however, due to the pack of dogs that live by my house and like to bark incessantly all day and night, i haven`t been able to get all that much sleep. because of this, i´m thinking about switching families, although i do really like this family especially since my guate mom took care of me while i was under the grip.

she brought my dinner to me in bed (refried beans and scrambled eggs that did not help my nausea, although i did manage to swallow some of the always delicious tortilla) and bought some gatorade for me today. lunch was (and dinner probably will be) salty noodle soup. she uses a lot of salt, something i´m definitely not used to, and i can just feel myself swelling up.

but, for the most part, i think i´m up for school tomorrow, a salsa class in the afternoon, the weekly school graduation dinner (this week is `international dinner` where students bring food from their home countries; i´m bringing domino´s pizza), and then a trip to an ex-guerilla camp on saturday.

i forget how horrible being sick can feel, especially when you aren´t at home with the comforts of your own bed, a hot bath, the ability to explain the nuances of what you are feeling in english, those little things. but, i made it through el gripe in one piece and i´ll try to take more precautions to make sure i stay as healthy as possible here (i write this as my stomach is rumbling something fierce! and wierd feeling... uh oh...).
